Well, we are home from the appointment. We didn't get the answer we wanted but God is still good.
First the bad news- Jacob is still severely allergic to peanuts.
Good news- the test was negative for all other nuts. PRAISE GOD!!
We will be experimenting here at home with him soon with some walnuts or pecans. The doctor said to give him a slither of the nut every hour until he gets a whole nut. We need to get his Epipen filled first.
The reason he ate the cereal and had no reaction is a little complicated but I will try to explain. When he goes for a long time(8 years) without any peanut in his system his body builds up antibodies against the allergy. Once the peanuts get into his system, the antibodies slowly die away. So had he eaten a few more bowls of the cereal he probably would have reacted. There was some doctors trying to make a vaccine for peanut allergies but it didn't work like it needed to so they have had to start over. So I guess the prayers now need to be for the doctors to find what they need to to help these kids that are allergic.
More good news is that we found out that peanut oil that is used to cook with is not dangerous for Jacob. So he can eat at places that use peanut oil. Today he ate fries at Chick-Fil-A and he was all smiles! LOL
Once we found out that he is still allergic Jacob just cried. He was very disappointed. I told him that God brings good out of everything and he looked at me with his broken eyes and said,"Momma, there is nothing good about this." That was tough my friends! I can convince myself that God can bring good out of things all day long but looking at my little 9 year old in his sad face, how can I convince him? Today it was hard being a momma. After a while of talking about the positive, he is feeling much better.
So thank all of you for your prayers. Continue the prayers for the doctors with the research. And pray that Jacob will find God's good out of all of it.
Hope you all have a great weekend!

He is still young, Michelle so to him it is the end of the world that he can't eat peanuts. As he gets older, he'll get some perspective on it. We deal with the same thing with Emily and it is hard to get a 9 year old to understand that there are worse things in the world than being allergic to things! :-(
Michelle he will soon see all the benifits of this visit. Chick Fil a is one of them and when you want to take him to all the different resturants now you dont have to stop and get hime a different meaal that will help make hime feel included. I will continue to keep him in my thoughts and prayers. Amanda W.
I am sorry to hear he is still allergic. I have several friends with allergic children and my sister has celiac, so we know all about food allergies and intolerances. :/
I hope you are feeling better, though, and you are in my prayers.

Oh Bless his little heart! I am sure you were a great mama during that conversation (not that you aren't anyway - you know what I mean..LOL). It is wonderful that he isn't allergic to other nuts, but just the peanuts! And that he can eat things cooked with peanut oil, that is really good news!! It was very encouraging to hear how positive you are about the whole thing.
Blessings,
Vania
Even though he didn't feel like he got the answer he wanted from God, let him know that eat out at Chick Fil IS A BIG SMILE from GOD promising him it will be ok! HUGS!
Sometimes when my son is disapointed about things that happen in his life that he cannot control, I share the story of Amy Charmichal praying for blue eyes all of her life.
When she was older and became a missionary she went to a small village to minister. At the time some bad men of that region where going from village to village to execute all Christian missionaries. So the people of the village dressed Amy up like one of them and painted her face darker. When the bad people came to the village they lined everyone up and inspected them. When they got to Amy one of the bad men looked her stright in the eyes and then passed. If God would have answered her prayers then she would have been easily executed because only forigners had eye color other than dark brown.
I have one son that breaks out in hives everytime he eats strawberries. I have no idea. But I pray that he grows out of it or that God heals him. If not, then there must be a good reason.

Nettie from Homeschool lounge.
P.S. I read your entry about all of the sickness. It is amazing what God shows us through it all.
I'm going to be the negative here...If he is allergic to peanuts I would not even dare give him peanut oil. You do not know when he will have a reaction. It's not worth it. Ana is very allergic to walnuts. When I found out, at the time I was giving her an organic bar with walnuts and she was not showing reaction. There can come a time that she will so we stay away from anything with walnuts even though she may not show reaction at the time. Did that make sense? :0) Hope we're still friends! ;)
