debt :^(

Hello all!

I wanted to share a little about what we are going through right now. Last week I paid off our credit card!! WOO-HOO!!! Not so fast! The same day I paid it off the lower element in my oven went out. It was $50 to replace. Then a few days ago I noticed that my oven was not working on broil. I thought it may be the upper element. No it is the thermostat. $150 to replace. :0(

My husband has decided to not put anymore money into this stove. A few months ago we spent about $100-$150 to fix some other stuff that went wrong with it. So we went looking for new stoves and Sears has no payments & no interest for 12 months. So I am getting a new stove today. Don't get me wrong, I am excited. It just isn't as sweet having to go into debt for it. We will pay it off by income tax time. So it will be ok. It just seems like we go 2 steps forward financially and 3 steps back. I am having patient faith in God and trusting that He will meet all of our needs. Our plan for our income tax next year was to get a van or SUV. We have a Ford Contour and poor Jacob almost doesn't fit between the 2 car seats. He is growing so much and I am not sure how much longer he will fit. I am believing God for a miracle in our finances so we can get a bigger vehicle. Please remember us in your prayers for this matter.

Now to my new stove. I decided to get a smooth top one. I have always wanted one but wasn't sure on how to take care of it. Some people have told me that they had one and didn't like it. Do any of you have tips for me? How to clean them, how often to clean them, what to do or not to do? Any advice is GREATLY appreciated. I want this stove to last me FOREVER!!! LOL
It is supposed to be delivered today so I will be able to use an oven again!

In closing this I want to say that if you can get out of debt at all, do it. But if something happens and you have to get a new appliance or something else on credit that is necessary, don't be discouraged. If you are really trying to be out of debt, God sees your heart and knows your true intention and I believe He will bless you either way!

So my words of wisdom for today are:
Try to live debt free and be as careful as possible when you do have to go into debt. Try to do it where you don't have to pay interest. It feels much better that way!

We have a smooth top stove and love it. I don't use anything special to clean it, just dish soap and water, and I wipe it down daily and after I cook anything (but I'm slightly anal like that anyway!). We've had it for about six years and it still looks and works great!

Hope you enjoy yours. :-)

Michelle, I had a smooth top stove once when I rented a place and I loved it. I would have another one in a second but when we bought our house, the stove in it was new so don't feel like I can replace it right away but if and when it goes, I'll have a smooth top stove again.

I cleaned mine using a dobie pad and soft scrub. You have to be careful of abrasive stuff. Soft scrub did the trick. I cleaned it as often as I needed to. The one thing you have to be careful of is not letting thing boil over because it causes a mess but not one that can't be cleaned up. You will learn as you go.

I loved the self-cleaning oven that was part of the one that I had and I also liked being able to put a roast on on Sunday Morning and set the timer so I could come home to a roast that was done just right.

I think you will love it!!!!

congratulations on being debt free for a few days but I am sure you will get that stove paid for in no time.
